holiday food

Well we are a day away from christmas. I am baking pies, cookies and what ever else I can find. I do find it a good feeling to give gifts I have made. I have figured out the problem with my pecan pies(temp to high on oven) I know I dont like making them in a gas oven. Pies are not that hard to make- you have to know your limits- mine is not to make the crusts from scratch. God Bless Pillsbury. Making cookies from scratch are not hard just time consuming. Any thoughts on favorites? Peanut butter blossoms come to mind. Chocolate chips are the national stand by.
I dont need a holiday to bake or cook. May every one have a good holiday.

bourbon cola glazed ham

Lets just start this post by saying OMG!!! Shannon had made this one and I redid it this weekend and it was the best ham I have every made or had!! I little Emeril Essense, cayenne, salt, pepper, brown sugar, Jim Beam, and a can of coke!! I found a 7.75 lb ham (on sale) at the Safeway reopening sale, ( yes is was a butt) but that made it all the better. 2 hours later (basting at the 1 hour mark) and you would not believe how moist, and tender the thing was. Bet you have never had anyone gush over a ham before. My brother in law, step son and his girlfriend and nephew were my guinea pigs(with out them knowing) and it was wonderful. A picnic in the winter, complete with Ms Joyce's macaroni salad, and green bean, There was just enough ham left for me to make a wonderful augrautin ( i really dont know how to spell it) casserole tomorrow. I will tell you about that tomorrow.

River Bay Roadhouse Review

OK, we went on a small adventure, and ended up at the River Bay Roadhouse, the former site of Bella's in Cape St. Claire. Bella's had a reputation of good drinks, good food and pretty good entertainment We decided to just try the bar, and see what happens. The whole restuarant has been revamped. Lots of wood, open ceilings, lots of tvs. The dinning area looked very nice. The bar area was open, lots of tv;s and lots of area to stand and cheer your favorite team on. As we sat at the bar, we were greeted by the barmaid (for lack of better title) who immediately took our drink order. $2 beer specials and 1/2 price wings were the order of the day. As we drank ice cold beer we looked over the regular menu. The menu has a cajun feel. The prices for the appetizers were in the 8$-10$ range. The wings arrived, litely spicey and hot. Good blue cheese dressing and celery. But this is were the story changed, as we waited for another beer, we were ignored. The bar lady(again lack of better name) walked passed us several times, got the low down on the other bartenders vacation and proceeded to take care of the other end of the bar. This was clearly a snub. The bar was not at all busy. I would have liked to try other things on the menu, but I didnt even get a second beer.
